Product Specific Information
The monoclonal antibody eBio8D9 reacts with an epitope shared by mouse CD21 (CR2) and CD35 (CR1). CD21 and CD35 are alternatively spliced transcripts from the Cr2 gene, producing cell-surface proteins of 145 and 190 kDa, respectively. They are expressed by mature B cells, but not on thymocytes, peripheral T cells, erythrocytes, or platelets. Expression has also been observed on macrophages.
CD21 is a receptor for complement component C3d and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). In association with CD19 and CD81, CD21 participates in B-cell activation through the B cell receptor. Cr2-deficient mice show impaired inflammatory and humoral immune responses in vivo.
The anti-mouse CD21/35 monoclonal antibody clones eBio4E3 and eBio8D9 do not cross-block each other, suggesting binding to different epitopes.
Applications Reported: This antibody is suitable for flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Tested on mouse splenocytes; recommended ≤0.25 µg/test (100 µL volume). Optimize titration for best results.

Target Information
CD21 (Complement Receptor 2, CR2) binds C3 complement fragments, playing a role in immunocomplex uptake, memory B cell survival, and humoral immune response development. It also serves as a receptor for Epstein-Barr virus and is involved in prion targeting and neuroinvasion.
CD35 encodes a membrane glycoprotein expressed on peripheral blood cells, glomerular podocytes, and follicular dendritic cells. It acts as a receptor for complement components C3b and C4b, regulating complement cascade activity. Variants in CD35 form the basis of the Knops blood group system. A soluble form of CD35 exists in plasma.
