Target Information
This gene encodes a protein belonging to the serine/threonine protein kinase STE20 subfamily.
One of the active site residues in the protein kinase domain is altered, making it a pseudokinase.
It is part of a complex involved in the activation of serine/threonine kinase 11 (STK11), a master kinase regulating cell polarity and energy metabolism.
This complex is essential for G1 cell cycle arrest mediated by STK11.
The encoded protein can interact with the X chromosome-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein, enhancing anti-apoptotic activity via the JNK1 pathway.
Two pseudogenes for this gene are located on chromosomes 1 and 7.
