Target Information

Caspases are cysteine proteases expressed as inactive precursors that mediate apoptosis by proteolysis of specific substrates. They cleave after aspartic acid residues and are divided into initiator and effector classes.
Initiator caspases (e.g., Caspase-8, Caspase-9) are activated by receptor clustering or mitochondrial signals, which then activate effector caspases (e.g., Caspase-3, Caspase-7) leading to cell collapse.
