Target Information
HIF1-alpha (HIF1A) is a subunit of HIF1, a transcription factor found in mammalian cells under reduced oxygen tension. HIF1 functions as a regulator of the adaptive response to hypoxia, activating transcription of more than 40 genes that improve oxygen delivery or metabolic adaptation, including erythropoietin, glucose transporters, glycolytic enzymes, and VEGF.
HIF1-alpha also regulates hypoxia-mediated apoptosis, cell proliferation, and tumor angiogenesis. It interacts with p53 and p300/CBP under hypoxic conditions, influencing protein degradation and gene expression. Hypoxia-related pathways involving HIF1A contribute to ischemia, cancer, pulmonary hypertension, and other major diseases.
