Target Information
The HSP70 family includes four highly conserved proteins: HSP70, HSC70, GRP75, and GRP78.
HSP70 expression is strongly induced by heat stress. HSP70 and HSC70 are involved in cytosolic, ER, and mitochondrial protein import and are found in both cytosol and nucleus.
GRP78 is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and assists in folding and translocation of nascent peptides.
GRP75 is restricted to the mitochondrial matrix and aids in folding and translocation of nuclear and mitochondrial polypeptides.
Members of the HSP70 family act as force-generating motors relying on ATP hydrolysis for activity.
