Target Information
PROZ (Protein Z) is a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein (62 kDa, 396 amino acids) involved in the coagulation cascade. It contains a gla-rich region, two EGF-like domains, and a trypsin-like domain but lacks catalytic serine residue. Protein Z functions as a cofactor for protein Z-related protease inhibitor (ZPI) in the degradation of factor Xa, enhancing the reaction up to 1000-fold. It is structurally related to factors VII, IX, X, and protein C. Deficiency may be associated with either thrombosis or bleeding tendencies.
