This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD255 (TWEAK), a type II transmembrane protein of the TNF superfamily that can weakly induce apoptosis in many cell types.
Target Information
TNF-related weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) is a member of the tumor necrosis factor superfamily (TNFSF). It is a cell surface-associated type II transmembrane protein, though a smaller active form can be generated by cleavage near the membrane. TWEAK exhibits multiple biological activities, including:
- Stimulation of cell growth and angiogenesis
- Induction of inflammatory cytokines
- Induction of apoptosis
TWEAK likely signals via TweakR/Fn14, similar to other TNFSF members that bind receptors lacking death domains.
