Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions at the site of synthesis, playing a physiological role in modulating lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency elevates HDL levels in animals.
LIPG has substantial phospholipase activity and may be involved in lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology. It is classified as a TG lipase family member by its sequence and lid region, providing substrate specificity. LIPG acts as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes HDL, emulsifies triglycerides, aids in digestion of dietary fats, and binds heparin.
