Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase involved in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, controlling cell growth and differentiation.
It is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, and membrane-dependent depolarization and calcium influx.
Activation occurs via phosphorylation of serine residues 218 and 222 by Raf1.
MEK1 plays roles in stress-activated responses, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation.
Mutations in MAP2K1 can lead to cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
