Target Information
TRPA1 is a TRP-related channel responsive to cold temperatures and pungent compounds, playing roles in nociceptor and hair cell transduction. It is a transformation-associated gene product in lung epithelia, primarily distributed in sensory neurons. Blocking TRPA1 may help treat cold hyperalgesia caused by inflammation and nerve damage. TRPA1 is also expressed outside the CNS and dys-regulated during oncogenic transformation. Structurally, TRPA1 relates to ankyrin and transmembrane proteins. Its function may involve signal transduction and growth control.
