Target Information

T-box 3 (TBX3) is a member of a conserved gene family characterized by the T-box DNA-binding domain. TBX3 encodes a transcriptional repressor involved in developmental regulation, including anterior/posterior limb axis formation and mammary gland development.

Mutations in TBX3 cause ulnar-mammary syndrome (MIM 181450), affecting limb, gland, tooth, hair, and genital development. TBX3 is also implicated in tumor development and osteoblast differentiation. Overexpression in certain human breast cancer cell lines and immortalization of fibroblasts in vitro have been observed.
