Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the neurotrophin family that controls survival and differentiation of mammalian neurons. It is closely related to nerve growth factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor. This protein may be involved in maintenance of the adult nervous system and neuronal development in embryos, especially when expressed in the human placenta.
NTF3-deficient mice display severe limb movement defects. The mature peptide is identical among mammals including human, pig, rat, and mouse.
