Target Information
eIF4E is a eukaryotic translation initiation factor involved in several cellular processes, including translational efficiency, splicing, mRNA stability, and RNA nuclear export. All eukaryotic mRNAs have a 7-methylguanosine cap structure (m7GpppX), to which eIF4E binds, directing ribosomes to initiate translation. It is a 24-kDa polypeptide that exists in free form or as part of the EIF4F complex, which also includes EIF4A (ATPase and RNA helicase) and EIF4G (220-kDa scaffold protein). eIF4E is the rate-limiting component in mRNA–ribosome binding during protein synthesis.
