Target Information
PCNA (Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen) is essential for DNA replication and plays a key role in DNA excision and mismatch repair pathways.
It binds to CDK inhibitor p21, endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT).
PCNA serves as a marker for proliferating cells and is used to assess tumor proliferation status and prognosis.
It is expressed in the nucleus, functions as a cofactor of DNA polymerase delta, and forms a homotrimer to enhance leading strand synthesis during replication.
Upon DNA damage, PCNA is ubiquitinated and participates in the RAD6-dependent DNA repair pathway.
Two transcript variants encoding the same protein are known, and pseudogenes are described on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
