Target Information

EXD2 is an exonuclease exhibiting both 3′–5′ exoribonuclease and exodeoxyribonuclease activities depending on the divalent metal cation used as cofactor.

  • With Mg²⁺: shows only 3′–5′ exoribonuclease activity
  • With Mn²⁺: shows both exoribonuclease and exodeoxyribonuclease activities

Functions include:

  • Acts as an exoribonuclease in mitochondria, regulating ATP production and mitochondrial translation
  • Involved in DNA damage response and double-strand break repair
  • Plays a key role in homologous recombination and chromosomal break repair
  • Recruited to chromatin in a damage-dependent manner and interacts with the MRN complex to accelerate resection
  • Stabilizes and restarts stalled replication forks under replicative stress
