Target Information
TIP47 is a cargo protein involved in trafficking of the mannose-6-phosphate receptor between endosomes and the Golgi complex. MPRs deliver lysosomal hydrolases from the Golgi to endosomes and return to the Golgi complex.
This protein interacts with cytoplasmic domains of both cation-independent and cation-dependent MPRs and is required for endosome-to-Golgi transport. It binds directly to GTPase RAB9, increasing affinity for its cargo.
TIP47 has been localized in milk fat globule membranes of human and bovine origin and described as a placental protein. Elevated levels have been observed in circulation of cervix carcinoma patients, suggesting its potential as an oncodevelopmental marker.
