IGFBP2는 glioma, prostate cancer, synovial sarcoma, neuroblastoma, colon cancer, adrenocortical cancer, lung cancer, Wilms' tumor, hepatoblastoma 등 다양한 암에서 과발현됩니다. 또한 IGFBP2의 과발현은 일부 종양의 공격성과 상관관계가 있습니다. IGFBP2는 matrix metalloprotease 2의 발현을 활성화하여 세포 침습성을 증가시킵니다.
