Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus, and is also secreted. Reducing expression of this gene increases susceptibility to ER stress-induced death and promotes cell proliferation.
Initially, the protein was thought to contain an arginine-rich region at the N-terminus, but transcriptional evidence indicates a smaller open reading frame without the arginine tract.
Polymorphisms in this region, including a mutation changing codon 50 from ATG to AGG, were reported in various solid tumors but later found in normal tissues, indicating they are not tumor-related.
