Target Information
Transcriptional control is partly regulated by interactions between DNA-bound transcription factors, such as Egr-1/NGFI-A, and coregulatory proteins, such as NAB (NGFI-A-binding proteins). The conserved NAB proteins, NAB1 and NAB2, act as corepressors of EGF-1/NGFI-A. Both contain an N-terminal NAB conserved domain 1 (NCD1) for NGFI-A binding and a C-terminal NCD2 domain responsible for repressor function. NAB2 is localized mainly in the nucleus and may regulate NGFI-A activity, influencing processes like cell division, differentiation, and apoptosis. NAB2 has a predicted molecular mass of 56 kDa and maps to chromosome 12q13.3–14.1, a region associated with several solid tumors, lipomas, and liposarcomas.
