Target Information
BCL-2 is a key regulator of apoptosis that functions to either inhibit or promote cell death. Members of the BCL-2 family dimerize to modulate apoptosis. Bag1 forms a heterodimer with BCL-2, enhancing its anti-apoptotic effect. Bax and Bak are critical for cytochrome c release from mitochondria, initiating apoptosis. Overexpression or translocation of BCL-2 is associated with follicular lymphoma and other cancers such as B-cell lymphoma and prostate cancer. Two transcript variants of BCL-2 differ at the C-terminal end due to alternative splicing.
