Target Information

Microtubules are dynamic intracellular polymers composed of conserved alpha/beta-tubulin heterodimers and microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs).
They are essential for key cellular processes such as mitosis, meiosis, maintenance of cell shape, intracellular transport, and cell motility via flagella and cilia.
In mammalian cells, microtubules are anchored at microtubule organizing centers (MTOCs). Tubulin polymerization is GTP-dependent and exhibits dynamic instability, where microtubules alternately grow and shrink.
Alpha-tubulin (~50 kDa) exists as part of soluble dimers or polymerized microtubules. In humans, six genes encode alpha-tubulin isoforms.
