Product Specific Information

OMA1-06111 specifically detects the phosphorylated 160 kDa neurofilament from human, guinea pig, hamster, non-human primate, rabbit, and xenopus tissues.
This antibody has been successfully used in Western blot and immunohistochemistry (frozen) procedures.
By Western blot, it detects an ~160 kDa protein representing the phosphorylated form of the 160 kDa neurofilament in human brain extract.
The immunogen is a cytoskeletal preparation of calf brain tissue.

Target Information

Neurofilaments (NFs) are intermediate filaments expressed almost exclusively in neurons, primarily in large axons.
They consist of three polypeptide chains—NF-M, NF-H, and NF-L—that share structural similarity but differ in terminal sequences.
NF-M’s phosphorylated tail domain is critical for axonal size and cytoskeletal structure, mediating interactions among filaments and other cytoplasmic components.
Phosphorylation and O-GlcNAcylation of NF-M are reciprocally regulated, influencing filament formation and neuronal function.
Antibodies against neurofilament subunits serve as useful neuronal markers due to their abundance, neuron-specific expression, and biochemical stability.
