Product Specific Information
OMA1-06001 detects vimentin from mouse, rat, hamster, chicken, goat, canine, monkey, zebrafish, porcine, and human tissues and cells.
It has been successfully used in Western blot, immunofluorescence, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry (frozen) procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects a ~57 kDa protein representing vimentin from human mesenchymal cells.
The antigen is cytoskeletal vimentin extract of calf lens.
Store at 4°C or -20°C if preferred. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Target Information
Vimentin is a developmentally regulated intermediate filament protein (IFP) found in cells of mesenchymal origin. It is involved in intracellular protein transport between the nucleus and plasma membrane.
Unlike other IFPs, vimentin is co-expressed with desmin during early cellular development and later replaced by tissue-specific IFPs.
Vimentin plays a role in steroid synthesis by facilitating cholesterol transport to mitochondria through cytoskeletal rearrangement mediated by phosphorylation events.
