Target Information
The protein encoded by the NDUFS1 gene is part of the complex I 75 kDa subunit family. Mammalian complex I consists of 45 different subunits and is located in the mitochondrial inner membrane.
This protein has NADH dehydrogenase and oxidoreductase activity, transferring electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain, with ubiquinone as the electron acceptor.
It is the largest subunit of complex I and a component of the iron-sulfur fragment, possibly forming part of the active site where NADH is oxidized.
Mutations in NDUFS1 are associated with complex I deficiency. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
