Target Information
Beta actin is one of six actin isoforms identified in humans. It is a non-muscle cytoskeletal protein expressed in all human cell types and plays a key role in cell motility, structure, and integrity.
Beta and gamma actins coexist in most cell types as components of the cytoskeleton. Polymerization of globular actin (G-actin) forms filamentous actin (F-actin) with a two-stranded helical structure.
Due to its ubiquitous expression, beta actin is commonly used as a loading control in protein detection assays such as Western blotting.
Antibodies to beta-actin are valuable tools for studying intracellular distribution and the dynamic aspects of the cytoskeleton.
