Product Specific Information

MA5-15450 targets PGR in indirect ELISA and Western blot applications, showing reactivity with human samples.
The immunogen is a purified recombinant fragment of PGR (aa730–871) expressed in E. coli.

Target Information

The progesterone receptor (PR) is a member of the steroid family of nuclear receptors. It mediates the physiological effects of progesterone, which plays a central role in reproductive events associated with pregnancy.
PR exists as two forms:

  • Form A (94 kDa)
  • Form B (120 kDa)

PR-B is transcriptionally active, responsible for activating genes for endometrial maintenance, pregnancy, and inhibition of ovulation.
PR-A differs by a 165 amino acid deletion at the N-terminus, exposing an inhibitory domain that represses steroid hormone transcriptional activity.

In its inactive state, PgR forms a multiprotein complex including heat shock proteins and immunophilins. Upon progesterone binding, the receptor undergoes conformational change, dimerizes, and binds to progesterone response elements (PRE) to activate transcription.
A null mutation in the PGR gene leads to reproductive abnormalities.
