Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- For formalin-fixed tissues: Heat tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) at 95°C for 45 minutes, then cool at room temperature for 20 minutes before staining.
Target Information
Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms part of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I. It is expressed on many cell types including lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial, and epithelial cells, but not on erythrocytes.
B2M is also present in plasma in free form and shares homology with immunoglobulin constant regions, featuring a beta-pleated sheet structure. It plays a role in antigen processing, presentation, and TCR signaling in naïve CD8+ cells.
Encoded by the B2M gene on chromosome 15, mutations can cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia. B2M levels are used as a marker for renal function and as a prognostic marker for HIV infection.
