MAP2K1은 다양한 성장인자와 사이토카인, 막 탈분극 및 칼슘 유입에 의해 활성화되며, Raf1에 의한 Ser218 및 Ser222 인산화로 활성화됩니다.
스트레스 반응, 세포자멸사(apoptosis), 사이토카인에 의한 증식 유도 등 다양한 생리적 과정에 관여하며, 유전자 변이는 cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome을 유발할 수 있습니다.
