Streptavidin is a tetrameric protein purified from Streptomyces avidinii. It is widely used in molecular biology protocols due to its strong affinity for biotin.
NWSHPQFEK (Strep-tag II) is a nine amino acid peptide with high specificity and affinity towards streptavidin.
NWSHPQFEK Tag Antibody is a useful tool for analysis and affinity purification of Strep-tag II fusion proteins.
Target Information
The Strep-tag II is an eight-residue minimal peptide sequence (Trp-Ser-His-Pro-Gln-Phe-Glu-Lys) that exhibits intrinsic affinity toward streptavidin and can be fused to recombinant proteins in various fashions.
The original Strep-tag was a nine amino acid peptide with high specificity and affinity towards streptavidin, allowing simple purification of proteins using affinity columns but limited to the C-terminus of recombinant proteins.
To enable N-terminal tagging, it was re-engineered and re-named Strep-tag II.
