Target Information
The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCG (PKC gamma), is activated intracellularly by signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 different PKC isoforms have been identified, differing in structure, localization, and function. PKC gamma is expressed exclusively in the brain and spinal cord, localized to neurons, and plays critical roles in neuronal functions such as long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD). Knockout studies suggest involvement in neuropathic pain development. Mutations in PKC gamma are associated with spinocerebellar ataxia-14 (SCA14).
