Product Specific Information

This antibody is predicted to react with non-human primate based on sequence homology.

Target Information

Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP), also known as Amyloid beta precursor protein, functions as a cell surface kinesin I membrane receptor mediating the axonal transport of beta-secretase and presenilin 1. APP plays a critical role in neurite growth, neuronal adhesion, and axonogenesis. It is a 100–140 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein with several isoforms generated by alternative splicing. Proteolytic cleavage by beta- and gamma-secretases produces beta amyloid, the main component of senile plaques — a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease. Abnormal APP regulation and processing are also implicated in Down’s syndrome, early-onset familial Alzheimer’s disease, and cerebral hemorrhage.
