Product Specific Information
Recombinant rabbit Superclonal™ antibodies are unique offerings from Thermo Fisher Scientific. They consist of multiple different recombinant monoclonal antibodies, providing:
- Sensitivity similar to polyclonal antibodies
- Specificity of monoclonal antibodies
- Consistency of recombinant production
These antibodies recognize multiple epitopes on the target, offering high detection sensitivity for low-abundance targets. Each lot contains a defined mixture of light and heavy chains, eliminating biological variability typically seen in polyclonal antibody production.
Note: Formerly called “Recombinant polyclonal antibody”, this product is now rebranded as “Recombinant Superclonal™ antibody”. The physical product and performance remain unchanged.
Target Information
FGF2 (fibroblast growth factor basic, FGFb) is part of the fibroblast growth factor family. It interacts with high-affinity transmembrane receptors to regulate:
- Cell proliferation
- Tissue neovascularization
FGF2 exists in five isoforms (18, 22, 22.5, 24, and 34 kDa) with distinct localizations and functions:
- 18 kDa isoform: cytosolic, acts through surface receptors
- Higher molecular weight isoforms: nuclear, may signal independently of receptor pathways
In humans, the FGF2 gene is located on chromosome 4q. It plays roles in limb and nervous system development, wound healing, and tumor growth. FGF2 mRNA has multiple polyadenylation sites and can be translated from non-AUG and AUG codons, producing isoforms responsible for intracrine, paracrine, and autocrine signaling.
Diseases associated with FGF2 dysfunction include:
- Kaposi Sarcoma
- Corneal neovascularization
