Target Information
The α/β hydrolase superfamily comprises diverse members involved in important biochemical processes and various diseases. Despite unrelated sequences and different substrates, they share the canonical α/β hydrolase fold—an eight-stranded parallel α/β structure—and a catalytic triad composed of histidine, acid, and nucleophile.
Members of this superfamily are often drug targets for diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, obesity, and blood clotting disorders.
The ABHD gene subfamily includes 15 mostly uncharacterized members, most utilizing a serine nucleophile forming the G-X-S-X-G nucleophile elbow.
