Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD; EC 1.14.99.5) is an iron-containing enzyme that catalyzes the rate-limiting step in the synthesis of unsaturated fatty acids. The principal product of SCD is oleic acid, formed by desaturation of stearic acid.
The stearic acid to oleic acid ratio influences cell growth and differentiation by affecting membrane fluidity and signal transduction.
Four SCD isoforms (Scd1–Scd4) have been identified in mouse, while humans have two isoforms (SCD1 and SCD5). SCD1 shares about 85% amino acid identity with all four mouse isoforms and with rat Scd1 and Scd2. SCD5 shows limited homology with rodent SCDs and appears unique to primates.
