Target Information
Surfactant protein A (SP-A) is a collectin involved in the innate immune system. The gene encoding SP-A maps to mouse chromosome 14. Surfactant protein A plays a role in innate host defense in the lung and is also expressed in the Eustachian tube. Studies indicate that specific surfactant protein-A haplotypes and genotypes differ between children with recurrent otitis media and control populations.
