This antibody detects endogenous levels of the activated Caspase 8 fragment resulting from cleavage adjacent to Asp384.
Target Information
Caspase 8 (CASP8) is a cysteine-aspartic acid protease involved in the execution phase of apoptosis. It exists as an inactive proenzyme that becomes activated through proteolytic cleavage, forming a heterodimeric enzyme composed of large and small subunits. Caspase 8 mediates programmed cell death induced by Fas and other apoptotic stimuli, interacting with FADD via its death effector domain (DED). It has been implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington’s disease. Activated Caspase 8 triggers downstream caspases, including Caspase 9, committing the cell to apoptosis. Overexpression induces apoptosis, which can be inhibited by ICE family-specific inhibitors. Multiple alternatively spliced isoforms have been identified.
