Target Information
Cytochrome C is an electron transporting protein located in the mitochondrial intermembrane space, playing a crucial role in oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production. Upon apoptotic stimuli, cytochrome C is released into the cytosol, where it binds apoptotic protease activating factor to activate procaspase 9. Cytosolic cytochrome C also contributes to the activation of caspase 3, a key effector in apoptosis.
