Target Information
Cytochrome C is an electron transporting protein located in the mitochondrial intermembrane space, playing a key role in oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production. Upon apoptotic stimuli, cytochrome C is released into the cytosol, where it binds apoptotic protease activating factor to trigger procaspase-9 activation. This leads to activation of caspase-3, a major effector of apoptosis.
