Target Information
RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical kinase catalytic domains that phosphorylates multiple residues of the S6 ribosomal protein. It is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm and plays a critical role in growth factor-regulated cell proliferation, cell motility, immune response, and tissue repair. Acting downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, p70 S6 kinase’s main physiological target is the S6 ribosomal protein, which is involved in upregulating protein synthesis. Its kinase activity promotes protein synthesis and cell proliferation. Amplification and overexpression of p70 S6 kinase are observed in some breast cancer cell lines.
