Target Information
MAPK8 (JNK1) is activated by the presence of misfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum. It is a crucial mediator of insulin resistance and obesity and belongs to the MAPK superfamily of stress-activated protein kinases. MAPKs are serine-threonine protein kinases that are activated in response to extracellular stimuli, mediating signal transduction from the cell surface to the nucleus.
JNK participates in various cellular processes including proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development. JNK pathways are activated by stress and inflammatory signals. JNK is expressed as ten different isoforms due to differential mRNA splicing, with JNK1 and JNK2 being the predominant forms.
