Target Information
Component of the CYFIP1–EIF4E–FMR1 complex which binds to the mRNA cap and mediates translational repression. In this complex, CYFIP1 acts as an adapter between EIF4E and FMR1, promoting translation repression activity of FMR1 in the brain by mediating its association with EIF4E and mRNA. It is involved in the formation of membrane ruffles, lamellipodia protrusions, and axon outgrowth. CYFIP1 binds to F-actin but not RNA, functioning as a regulator of epithelial morphogenesis and may act as an invasion suppressor in cancers.
