Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a key component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Defects in this checkpoint can lead to genetic instability and malignant transformation.
Human cells contain two related checkpoint kinases, hBUBR1 and hBUB1, both derived from the BUB1 gene. These kinases monitor kinetochore-microtubule interactions during mitosis. hBUBR1 is crucial for preventing premature anaphase entry and has been detected in various human cancers.
BUBR1 also interacts with BCSG1 (Breast Cancer-Specific Gene 1), potentially promoting breast cancer progression by compromising mitotic checkpoint control.
