Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a key component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Defective spindle checkpoints contribute to genetic instability and malignant transformation.
Human cells express two related checkpoint protein kinases, hBUBR1 and hBUB1, both derived from the BUB1 gene. These kinases monitor kinetochore-microtubule interactions during mitosis. hBUBR1 is essential for preventing premature anaphase entry and has been detected in various human cancers. It also interacts with BCSG1 (Breast Cancer-Specific Gene 1), which may promote breast cancer progression by disrupting mitotic checkpoint control.
