Target Information
Calmodulin is a small, highly conserved calcium-binding protein found in all eukaryotic cells. It can bind up to four calcium ions and functions as an intracellular receptor for regulatory calcium signals. Upon calcium binding, calmodulin undergoes conformational changes that increase its affinity for target proteins. It interacts directly with key enzymes and indirectly through specific kinases. Calmodulin regulates various biological processes, including energy and biosynthetic metabolism, cell motility, exocytosis, cytoskeletal assembly, and intracellular modulation of cAMP and calcium concentrations.
