Target Information
NMDAR1 encodes a protein that is a critical subunit of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, which belong to the glutamate receptor channel superfamily. These receptors are heteromeric protein complexes forming ligand-gated ion channels and are essential for synaptic plasticity, a fundamental mechanism underlying learning and memory. Expression of different isoforms may be controlled by cell-specific factors, contributing to functional diversity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have also been described.
