Target Information
Napsin 1 is an aspartic protease primarily expressed in the lung, and also found in kidney and metastatic carcinomas. It processes surfactant protein B in healthy pulmonary and renal tissues but is dysregulated in carcinogenesis. Napsin evaluation is useful for identifying various cancers and differentiating primary tumors from metastases. When combined with thyroid transcription factor analysis, napsin serves as a specific biomarker for carcinoma type differentiation. It is also associated with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis and protein catabolism in renal tubules.
