Target Information
Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) produces nitric oxide (NO), a gaseous free radical involved in vasorelaxation, neurotransmission, and cytotoxicity. NO is synthesized from L-arginine by NOS enzymes. iNOS expression is inducible by lipopolysaccharide and cytokines such as IFN-γ, TNF, and IL-1/2. It is found in macrophages, hepatocytes, synoviocytes, and smooth muscle cells. iNOS activity increases after cytokine stimulation, leading to prolonged NO production. Dysregulation of iNOS is linked to diseases like achalasia and impotence.
