Target Information

Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 18 (TNFRSF18), also known as GITR or AITR, is encoded by the TNFRSF18 gene located at 1p36.33.
This receptor belongs to the TNF-receptor superfamily and exhibits increased expression upon T-cell activation. It plays a key role in immunological self-tolerance mediated by CD25(+)CD4(+) regulatory T cells.
Knockout studies in mice indicate its involvement in regulating CD3-driven T-cell activation and programmed cell death.
Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
