Target Information
Chromosome 8 encodes approximately 800 genes across nearly 146 million bases. Abnormalities such as translocation and amplification of the c-Myc gene are linked to certain leukemias and lymphomas with poor prognosis. Chromosome 8 alterations are associated with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and Warkany syndrome 2 (trisomy 8), which may cause developmental and facial defects. It also includes WRN (defective in Werner syndrome), and genes related to Pfeiffer syndrome, congenital hypothyroidism, and Waardenburg syndrome.
