Target Information
Biliverdin reductase (BLVR)는 세포질에 존재하는 산화환원효소로, biliverdin을 bilirubin으로 환원시키는 반응을 촉매합니다. 이 과정의 첫 단계는 heme oxygenase에 의해 heme이 iron, carbon monoxide, biliverdin으로 전환되는 반응입니다.
BLVR은 NADH(pH 6.7) 또는 NADPH(pH 8.7)를 전자공여체로 사용하는 dual pH/dual cofactor-dependent 효소입니다.
두 가지 isoform이 존재하며, biliverdin-IX alpha-reductase (BLVRA)는 성인 간에서 주로 발견되고, biliverdin-IX beta-reductase (BLVRB)는 태아 간에서 주로 발견됩니다.
Bilirubin은 강력한 생물학적 항산화제이지만, 동시에 신경독성을 나타내어 kernicterus의 원인이 되기도 합니다. 또한 protein kinase C 및 NADPH oxidase와 같은 효소의 활성을 억제합니다.
